Bentley Miniature Railway is the publicly operated miniature passenger carrying ground level railway run in the grounds of Bentley
The railway operates 7¼ inch scale model locomotives and runs most weekends during the summer. Bentley Miniature Railway offers rides only to Bentley visitors and is subject to a small additional fee of just £2 per person per trip.
Bentley, located just 5 miles south of Uckfield, in addition to the railway, it includes a motor museum displaying many rare and in some cases unique motor vehicles such as the 'De Lorean' made famous by the 1985 film 'Back to the Future'.
Bentley is also home to a fine wildfowl park where the public can roam freely around enclosures containing many species from around the world (125 of the 147 worldwide breeds can currently be seen at Bentley). The site also has a cafe serving home produced meals with a smile.
In addition to this there are many wonderful walks within the grounds including access to Glyndebourne Wood, which in the spring has some beautiful bluebell walks and is a peaceful break from the hectic pace of modern life at any time of the year.
Of course the centrepiece of Bentley is Raymond Erith's Palladian inspired House which remained home to Mary Askew up until her death in November 2008. This includes the formal gardens by Jim Russell which have been developed with the Askew's vision since 1937 to their current standard.
The railway is owned and operated by volunteers who are members of Bentley Miniature Railway Limited, which is a company incorporated in England and Wales, company number 8775876, registered address: Harveys Lane, Ringmer, BN8 5AF. Bentley Miniature Railway is affiliated to the Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies.
The club meets each weekend to operate public services and most weeks there are works parties during the day to allow members to conduct maintenance on the railway and associated infrastructure.
The cost of full membership is just £25 per year.
