4472 Flying Scotsman (Class A3)

The full-size Flying Scotsman was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923 and is the sole survivor of the class which numbered 79 engines. It is currently being overhauled in the National Railway Museum in York and should be back on the mainline possibly later this year. The 7 1/4 inch model Flying Scotsman 4-6-2 was built in the 1930s and has been with the current owner for nearly 40 years. It is also currently being overhauled and will return to Bentley hopefully later this year.

44804 LMS Black 5 (Black 5)

The `Black 5' 4-6-0 loco based upon the design of a very popular L.M.S. main line passenger-carrying locomotive has done much service, and has certainly proven that it can pull large trains with ease. This loco was rarely seen at Bentley between 2003/4 due to a major overhaul which has now been completed. The loco returned to service late in 2005 and ran daily during Woodfair with high passenger volumes and ran regularly during 2006-8.

78064 BR Class 2 Richard Thomas (BR Class 2)

BR Class 2, 2-6-0 78064 is a new addition to the locos seen frequently running on Bentley Miniature Railway. In real life 65 Class 2's were built with 78064 the last to be completed, in miniature, this loco is equally rare with only a handful of 7 1/4 Class 2's in existance.

Apollo (Tinkerbell)

Built to the Tinkerbell design Apollo is an enclosed-cab locos and has proven it'self capable of hauling even the heaviest of trains in part due to it's weight (around half a ton in running form). Apollo can often be seen running on the busiest days

Basil (Bagnall)

This loco is a model of a Bagnall 0-4-0 saddle tank. Its first appearance at Bentley was in 2004, and has since become one of the regular operators at the track.

Black Swan (Thomas II)

A powerful locomotive capable of hauling many loaded carriages, "Black Swan" entered regular service on Bentley Miniature Railway in 2007. This loco, built to a design based upon the popular "Thomas II" type, was built by Richards Engineering in 1997 with 0-4-2 wheel arrangement, outside cylinders, Walschearts valve gear and a large fully braked bogie tender. The locomotive has already undergone improvements since its first visit to Bentley, with more to come.

Buffalo (Canadian Switcher)

This 2-8-0 loco used to be a regular visitor the railway all the way from Scotland, but as it's owner has now moved back south, it has become one of our regular steamers. It is based upon a Canadian National Railway prototype, and as befits a loco from Canada, it has been seen pulling long trains with ease for hours on end. This loco has recently undergone major works to change all the wheel tyres which had gradually distorted due to uneven wear (a characteristic of the original steel used), but we are glad to welcome it back now and you can expect to see it regularly.

Dart 1466 / 1401 (Dart)

Bentley plays host to two GWR `Dart's, numbered 1466 and 1401, the first of which took part in the 1999 Seven and a Quarter Locomotive Efficiency Competition (SEQLEC) hosted at Bentley, sponsored by the Model Engineer magazine, and proudly returned home in third position. During the summer, particularly the August Wednesdays, this loco can often be seen running at Bentley. The second 'Dart', 1401 is a more recent addition only being completed during the 2003 running season, but has regularly been seen running on Summer Sundays and major events ever since.

Elaine (Hunslet)

Elaine portrays a 1/3rd scale model of Hunslet-designed 0-4-0 saddle tank engines of the well- known 'Alice' or 'Port' class, so typical of those which operated in the welsh slate quarries. Elaine is built to the cab-less design making a very sleek, elegant design. Elaine regularly operates in service at Bentley

Emma (Tinkerbell)

Originally built in 2002 to the Tinkerbell design this 0-4-2 format loco in a bright yellow colour is one of the most commonly seen locos at Bentley on days of high demand (such as WoodFair) due to it's immense pulling power.

Jasmine (Hunslet)

Jasmine is a 1/3rd scale model of Hunslet-designed 0-4-0 saddle tank engine of the well- known 'Alice' or 'Port' class, so typical of those which operated in the welsh slate quarries. Jasmine has a conventional cab, as fitted to the full-size locos when originally delivered from Hunslet in Leeds. Jasmine is in regular service on the railway each summer now resplendent in her newly-applied bodywork livery after having a new steel boiler during 2009.

Kerr Stuart Wren (Kerr Stuart Wren)

This loco was built in 1994 by a Club member, and has seen regular service on the railway ever since despite changing owner upon it's builders death. It is a model of the little Kerr-Stuart narrow-gauge 0-4-0 locomotive which used to run in the old L.N.W.R. railway workshops at Crewe. At Brighton Modelworld 2002 this loco was named Bill Powell after its late builder

Lorna (Class 12A)

This loco used to be a regular steamer at Bentley. Lorna is a model of a Great Central Railway (Ex-M.S. & L.) Sacre-designed 2-4-0 Class 12A. Despite it's small size this loco has proven that it is perfectly capable of hauling up to 30 passengers. Currently this loco is not in running condition but is hoped to return shortly.

Rhian (Romulus)

Rhian is the most commonly seen of the Romulus type 0-4-0 locos at Bentley. It first ran in 2006 and has proven it'self to be able to haul 3 car trains with ease.

Romulus (Romulus)

The Romulus design by Roger Marsh is probably the most popular design of loco running on many 7 1/4 inch gauge railways and here at Bentley this is also true. 'ROMULUS' has a large 6-wheeled tener and had a major overhaul a couple of years ago but is otherwise faithful to the original design

Scots Guardsman (Royal Scot)

Number 6115 Scots Guardsman in real life is one of only two of the original 70 Royal Scot 4-6-0's still in existence. The first 50 of the original engines were built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow in less than a year - the model which was completed in 2008 took nine years! All the original engines were rebuilt by Sir William Stanier commencing in 1943. Scots Guardsman was unique in being the only one to run with the characteristic smoke deflectors whilst still being an LMS engine for a few months in late 1947 before British Railways came into existence. It is painted in the LMS glossy black livery - a change from the more usual BR green.

Sweet Pea is a 5inch narrow gauge loco which is now seldom seen at Bentley, but was one of the earliest locos to run after the current track was laid.

Tom Rolt 5inch (Tom Rolt)

The 5' gauge loco Tom Rolt is based upon the Talyllyn 0-4-2T design appeared at Bentley in 2001. This loco had the honour of hauling the 100,000th ticket holder in September 2001. Like 'Sweet Pea', it is a powerful little engine, and usually appears on summer Saturday afternoons.

Tom Rolt 71/4 inch (Tom Rolt)

Based on the Talyllyn 0-4-2T design, this larger, 7 1/4inch model of the Tom Rolt loco was introduced in 2007 and has been running regularly since.
