Bentley Miniature Railway in the grounds of Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum

Bentley House, a Palladian-style mansion designed by ErithBentley Miniature Railway is the publicly operated miniature passenger carrying ground level railway run by Uckfield Model Railway Club in the grounds of Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum

The railway operates on 2 Gauges (namely 5inch and the more popular 7¼ inch scales) and runs most weekends during the summer. Bentley Miniature Railway offers rides only to Bentley Wildfowl & Motor Museum visitors and is subject to a small additional fee.

Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum, located just 5 miles south of Uckfield, is one of East Sussex's largest tourist attractions as, in addition to the railway, it includes a motor museum displaying many rare and in some cases unique motor vehicles such as the 'De Lorean' made famous by the 1985 film 'Back to the Future'.
Bentley is also home to a fine wildfowl park where the public can roam freely around enclosures containing many species from around the world (125 of the 147 worldwide breeds can currently be seen at Bentley).
Some of the rare waterfowl In addition to this there are many wonderful walks within the grounds including access to Glyndebourne Wood, which in the spring has some beautiful bluebell walks and is a peaceful break from the hectic pace of modern life at any time of the year.
Of course no visit to Bentley is complete without a trip around the centrepiece - Raymond Erith's Palladian inspired House, home to Mary Askew to this day, incluing the formal gardens by Jim Russell which have been lovingly developed with the Askew's vision since 1937 to their current magnificent standard.

The railway is owned and operated by volunteers who are members of Uckfield Model Railway Club Limited, the club was originally formed in 1974, and was incorporated in England and Wales in October 1999, company number 3824818, registered address: c/o Richard Place Dobson, Chartered Accountants, 5 High Street, Edenbridge, Kent TN8 5AB. Uckfield Model Railway Club is affiliated to The London Model Railway Club, The Chiltern Model Railway Association and the Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies.

The club also has members and interests in the following clubs and associations: The Scalefour Society; The Historical Model Railway Society, The Gauge 'O' Guild, The EMGauge Society and the 7¼ inch Gauge Society.

In addition to meeting at Bentley for the operation of the miniature railway the club meets weekly at it's headquarters just off the Maresfield Bypass to build and operate a number of layouts in scales ranging from 2mm to 7mm as well as maintainance of model engineering equipment.

The cost of full membership for 2008 is just £30 per year (with concessions for Children/Students/Pensioners). In addition to this the first attendance at the clubs headquarters in a week requires payment of a fee of £3.
